Body Lotion

Body lotion is a viscous emulsion: pump and piston selection follows its shear behaviour and air content, and a shut-off nozzle prevents stringing into the seal area — the most common packaging defect with viscous products. The emulsion does not behave as one fixed material along the dosing path: it thins as it is worked through pipes and valves, and air carried in during mixing or transfer changes the volume that actually leaves the nozzle even when the stroke stays the same. A thread of product drawn onto the film at cut-off ends up between the sealing jaws, preventing a full weld and producing packs that leak later in the carton. In cosmetics the pack is also the face of the product on the shelf; sachet lines cover everything from single-use samples to travel sizes with clean, straight seals. Filling is by positive displacement: a piston or pump draws a measured volume and delivers it through a nozzle that closes positively at the end of the stroke, with a short suck-back that pulls the last of the emulsion off the nozzle tip instead of letting it drop on the seal line. Because the dose is set by displaced volume, thickness does not work against repeatability. What changes from one recipe to the next is the nozzle bore, the piston and seal materials, and how firmly the hopper feeds the cylinder — a heavier cream wants a wider bore, a lighter lotion a faster close. Wetted parts are stainless steel and the product path is laid out to be cleaned between batches. The format decides the rest of the machine. Stick pack is the single-application format: magazine and box sampling, hotel amenities, travel and airline kits, e-commerce inserts that have to stay flat. A three- or four-side sealed sachet takes the larger doses and offers more print area, so the sample can carry the retail artwork. Pillow bags produced on a VFFS suit the top of the dose range, where a larger portion goes to professional or salon use. Doses run from 1 to 10 ml. Output follows the number of lanes, and the number of lanes follows pack width: a narrow stick fits more lanes across the same machine than a wide sachet. On an MSM1200 that means up to 960 packs per minute with narrow packs on twelve lanes, and 480 packs per minute on the same machine when a wider pack leaves room for six. Cycle rate and packs per minute are not the same figure — each cycle releases one pack per lane. Lane counts by model: ARTISTICK 1-5, HSM 1-3, ISM400 2-5, ISM600 3-7, MSM800 4-10, MSM1200 6-12, SPM320 1-8, SPM800 4-12, SPM1200 7-12.
