Packaging Notes

Caramel syrup is sticky, dense and temperature-sensitive: too cold it refuses to flow, too warm it thins and drips. That narrow window is the whole engineering problem. Viscosity shifts with a few degrees in the tank, so a dose that is correct at the start of a shift drifts before the end of it unless the product is held at a stable temperature all the way to the nozzle. Sugar solids film every surface they touch, and syrup left hanging at the nozzle tip drops into the seal area, contaminating the seam and creating leakers. Filling is volumetric through a heated product path. Heated product paths hold the ideal filling viscosity while a shut-off nozzle cuts the last thread of syrup before the film moves. Each dose is measured as a volume and pushed out, so repeatability survives the whole viscosity range instead of depending on how freely the syrup happens to run that hour. A caramel syrup filling machine is therefore built around its contact parts: generous flow diameters, food-grade seals that tolerate warm sugar product, a nozzle that closes positively instead of dribbling, and a path that can be dismantled or flushed between runs so caramelised residue never carries into the next batch. Formats follow the market. The caramel syrup stick pack is the portion format: coffee shops, dessert kits and hotel breakfast lines hand one stick to one drink or one plate. Portion sticks for coffee shops and dessert kits are the leading use case, where dose repeatability defines the customer experience. A caramel syrup sachet carries a larger single serve for foodservice, delivery orders and retail multipacks, with more room for print. On VFFS machines the same syrup goes into pillow bags for kitchen and industrial use, where the pack is opened once and emptied rather than carried in a pocket. Doses run from 5 to 15 ml. Output is set by pack width, because these are multi-lane machines: the narrower the stick or sachet, the more lanes fit across the film, and one cycle produces one pack per lane. An MSM1200 running a narrow pack in 12 lanes reaches up to 960 packs per minute; the same machine on a wide pack runs 6 lanes and up to 480 packs per minute. Cycle rate and packs per minute are not the same figure, and the lane count of the chosen model sets the difference. Nine models handle this product: ARTISTICK (1-5 lanes), HSM (1-3), ISM400 (2-5), ISM600 (3-7), MSM800 (4-10), MSM1200 (6-12), SPM320 (1-8), SPM800 (4-12) and SPM1200 (7-12). Selecting a caramel syrup sachet packaging machine is a question of pack width, target output and floor space. Typical customers are syrup and dessert-topping producers, coffee brands packing their own accompaniments, foodservice co-packers and private-label fillers supplying hotel and restaurant chains.
