Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is one of the heaviest products in flexible packaging: extremely viscous, oily and prone to separation. It does not flow to the filler on its own and does not level itself once dosed. Standing in the hopper, oil rises while the paste beneath stiffens, so the first pack of a run and the last can differ unless the product is kept moving all the way to the nozzle. Crunchy grades carry roasted particles that must pass the product path without being crushed, and the oily, adhesive residue turns any smear in the seal area into a leaking pack further down the line. Powerful piston fillers with wide product paths and shut-off nozzles move it cleanly into single-serve sachets and squeeze packs. The piston draws a measured volume and pushes it out under pressure, which is what a paste of this viscosity needs at speed: the dose comes from the stroke, not from how the product flows. The wide path keeps particles whole in crunchy grades and back pressure sensible in smooth ones. The shut-off nozzle closes at the end of the stroke, so the dose is cut instead of stringing onto the film and the seal area stays clean. Nozzle geometry, seals and wetted parts are chosen for an oily paste, since on this product they set cleaning and changeover time. Stick pack is the natural single-serve format: one stick is one portion for one slice of bread, and it empties by squeezing, which matters with a paste this thick. Hotel, airline and canteen breakfast programmes are the main buyers of a peanut butter stick pack machine.
