Packaging Notes

Shower gel combines high viscosity with heavy fragrance loads that can plasticise weak sealants. The viscosity means the product does not self-level: it moves under applied pressure rather than under gravity, holds entrained air, and leaves a tail at the end of every shot unless the nozzle closes positively. The fragrance load is the second problem. Perfume oils and the surfactant system migrate into the inner sealant layer of the film and soften it, so a seal that passed on the day of production can open months later in a hotel drawer or a suitcase. Product dragged into the seal area during filling makes this worse, because a contaminated seal never reaches full strength. A shower gel filling machine therefore works by positive displacement. A piston draws a measured volume from the hopper and pushes it through a shut-off nozzle that closes at the end of the stroke, cutting the thread of product cleanly so nothing falls onto the sealing jaws. Stroke length sets the dose, so accuracy does not depend on how freely the gel happens to flow on a given day. Nozzle geometry, piston seals and gaskets are chosen for resistance to fragrance oils and surfactants, and the fill profile is set to start and stop gently so air is not whipped into the product. On the film side, fragrance-resistant laminates preserve seal strength over shelf life. Stick pack is the format most shower gel goes into, and a shower gel stick pack machine is usually the first line an amenity supplier buys: the stick is narrow, tears at the notch with wet hands, and ships in bulk to housekeeping trolleys. Four-side-seal sachets carry the same product where a larger printable face matters — amenity kits, box and magazine inserts, retail sampling. Pillow-style sachets suit the larger single doses used in gym and travel packs. Hospitality and travel-size sachets are the core application, where a premium look meets single-use hygiene. Doses run from 5 to 15 ml. Output depends on how many lanes fit across the web, and lane count follows pack width rather than the machine alone: an MSM1200 on narrow packs runs twelve lanes and reaches up to 960 packs per minute, while the same machine on wider packs runs six lanes and up to 480 packs per minute. Wider sticks and sachets therefore trade lanes for face area. Nine models cover the range: ARTISTICK (1-5 lanes), HSM (1-3), ISM400 (2-5), ISM600 (3-7), MSM800 (4-10), MSM1200 (6-12), SPM320 (1-8), SPM800 (4-12) and SPM1200 (7-12). A shower gel sachet packaging machine and a stick line share the same piston filling group; what changes is the sealing tooling, the film width and the number of lanes. Buyers are hotel amenity suppliers, private-label cosmetics manufacturers and contract packers working for airline, spa, gym and retail sampling programmes. The same shower gel packaging machine also runs shampoo, conditioner and body lotion, which share the viscosity range and the fragrance-resistant film requirement.
