Packaging Notes

Cosmetic blush is an ultra-fine pigmented powder where a single stray grain shows on the seal — and on the customer. The mineral base is milled very fine, carries a heavy pigment load and does not flow freely: disturbed, it takes in air and moves almost like a liquid; at rest it settles and compacts, so the same volume does not always weigh the same. It is also electrostatically active, clinging to metal and film instead of dropping cleanly; pigment that drifts into the sealing zone leaves a weak seal and a visible mark. That behaviour rules out volumetric cups and gravity fillers, which need a powder that pours consistently, and piston dosing, which is for liquids. A blush powder filling machine meters with a servo-driven auger: the screw doses by rotation rather than free fall, so repeatability survives the bridging that forms above it. An agitator keeps the hopper live and the head of powder constant, the auger profile starts and stops gently so the dose is not thrown and aerated, and the filling station is enclosed with dust extraction. Three formats cover the category. The stick pack is the sampling dose: narrow, single use, sized for a magazine insert, a beauty box or a travel kit. The four-side seal sachet gives a flat printable face for shade names, brand artwork and regulatory text on a very small area, which is why it dominates shade-launch samplers. VFFS pillow bags sit further up the chain, moving bulk powder from the blender to a pressing line or a contract filler. Dose weight is set on the customer's own material, not from a catalogue: pigment load, milling fineness and entrained air change what a given volume weighs. Output follows the same rule. On a multi-lane blush powder stick pack machine, and on sachet machines, packs per minute are the cycles per minute multiplied by the lane count, and lane count is fixed by pack width: a narrow blush stick allows more lanes across the same web than a wide sachet. On a VFFS machine there is no such multiplication; one cycle is one bag. The configuration and lane count of a blush powder packaging machine are settled after a trial with the real powder, because flow behaviour, not format alone, sets the limit. Typical buyers are colour cosmetics manufacturers, contract and private-label fillers, and sampling houses working to a brand's artwork standard. The same blush powder sachet packaging machine usually runs neighbouring products — face powder, highlighter, mineral foundation, eyeshadow — so shade changeover and cleaning between pigments matter as much as speed. In sampling, appearance is part of the specification: a careless-looking pack is rejected as fast as one that leaks.
