Collagen peptides are hygroscopic and clump the moment humidity touches them. A sack left open on a humid floor cakes within a shift, and the same happens in miniature inside the machine: the powder bridges over the hopper outlet, sticks to the auger tube and drifts onto the sealing jaws as fine dust. Collagen is a non-free-flowing powder; bulk density moves with the hydrolysis grade and the particle size distribution, and a static charge pulls the finest fraction towards the film exactly where the seal has to close. Dry-path filling, agitated auger dosing and high-barrier films keep each daily-dose stick free-flowing and dissolvable. That behaviour decides the dosing method. A collagen filling machine works with a servo-driven auger and an agitator in the hopper: the agitator breaks bridges and keeps a constant head of product over the screw, while the auger meters by rotation rather than by volume, so a shift in bulk density is answered with a change in screw revolutions instead of a drifting fill weight. Volumetric cup dosing, which needs the powder to settle the same way every cycle, is not safe here. Dust extraction at the fill point and a shut-off nozzle keep the seal area clean, because powder caught in a seal is a leak path and collagen will find the moisture that leak lets in. Formats follow the way collagen is sold. The stick pack dominates: one daily dose, opened over a glass, and the 40-stick monthly box built on this format carried collagen from pharmacies into mainstream retail. A collagen powder sachet packaging machine covers the heavier end, where a four-side sealed sachet is more practical than a long stick: multi-serve doses, clinic packs, sampling. For refill jars and bulk the same powder goes into a pillow bag on VFFS, where there is no lane multiplication and one cycle is one bag. Doses run from 15 to 100 g. Output depends on how many lanes the pack width allows, and the lane count, not the machine cycle, is what fills the box: on an SPM1200 a narrow stick runs 12 lanes and reaches up to 840 packs per minute, while a wider pack on the same machine drops to 7 lanes and up to 490 packs per minute. The SPM800 works between 4 and 12 lanes, the SPM320 between 1 and 8.
