Packaging Notes

Instant soup blends powders with visible pieces — noodles, croutons, dried vegetables — that must survive dosing intact and reach every pack in equal share. The powder fraction is non-free flowing: starch, creamer, salt and dried extracts bridge at the hopper outlet, compact under their own weight and shift in bulk density across a batch. The pieces do the opposite. Croutons crumble under pressure, noodle nests break into fines, and flakes segregate in any moving mass, so the first packs take whole pieces and the last take debris. The blend is hygroscopic, and sharp fragments settle in the seal area and open a leak path. Powder and pieces cannot share one dosing system, so an instant soup filling machine carries two. The powder runs on auger dosing: a servo-driven auger meters by rotation, so the weight holds as the hopper level falls, and an agitator keeps the blend loose instead of caking into a plug. Volumetric cup feeding cannot hold a weight here. The pieces are dosed separately, by volumetric bucket or a feeder that moves them without shear, and both streams meet over one open pack — combination dosing. Powder and fragments are cleared from the seal area before the jaws close — seal contamination is the usual cause of a leaking soup pack. The single-bowl sachet defines this category: it holds one portion and is wide enough for whole pieces to pass the fill tube, so an instant soup sachet packaging machine is the usual first retail line. The stick pack suits powder-dominant recipes — cup soups and vending refills with small pieces — where shelf space is narrow and the pour goes straight into a mug. No fixed dose window or output figure is published: both follow the recipe. The dose follows the portion — one bowl, one mug, a catering pot — and the bulk of the pieces: a light crouton fraction takes far more room per gram than powder. Output follows lane count, and lane count follows pack width: a narrow stick pack lets more lanes run across the same web, a wide sachet leaves fewer, and on VFFS there is no lane multiplication — one cycle is one bag.
