Packaging Notes

Lentil soup powder is a dense legume flour with spices — heavier than cream soups and prone to compaction at the hopper base. The column of powder settles under its own weight, packs down over the outlet and bridges above the dosing screw, then breaks loose unevenly, so consecutive packs drift in fill weight while nothing visibly changes on the machine. The blend is not uniform either: fine legume flour, coarser spice particles and salt behave differently under vibration, so a correctly mixed batch can separate on its way to the filling head. Dust thrown off during hopper refill settles on the sealing area, where a thin layer of flour between the jaws leaves a weak seal. Aroma is the other constraint, because the spice fraction is what the end user judges. Dosing is therefore done with an agitated auger. The screw meters a fixed volume per turn while the agitator keeps the product above it moving, so the flights fill the same way each cycle instead of drawing on a compacted mass; agitated auger dosing keeps the powder moving and evenly blended. Volumetric cup dosing is not realistic for a non-free-flowing powder: it neither fills nor empties a cup cleanly and reacts strongly to bulk density changes, while piston dosing belongs to liquids and pastes. Where tolerances are tight, the auger can run with weight feedback.
