Maca is a dense root powder with natural oils that make it stickier than typical botanicals. Those oils are also what turns a routine powder job into a difficult one: the fines compact under their own weight, particles cling to each other and to steel surfaces, and the material bridges over the hopper outlet instead of feeding down evenly. Ground maca also carries an earthy aroma that fades once the powder sits in contact with air. Equipment selection starts from those two facts. Auger dosing is the method that matches this behaviour. A servo-driven auger meters by displacement rather than by free fall, so it does not rely on the powder settling at a repeatable density. Slow-profile auger dosing prevents compression in the tube: a slower, controlled screw profile keeps the powder from packing between the flights, which is the usual source of weight drift and of plugs that will not release cleanly. An agitator keeps the hopper bed live and breaks bridges before they reach the screw. Volumetric cup filling assumes a powder that enters and leaves the cup at a repeatable density; maca does neither. In practice, a maca powder filling machine is an auger machine with a recipe held per grind. Format follows the market rather than the material. Dose range and output are not fixed figures for this product. Bulk density shifts with grind, origin and whether the powder is raw or gelatinised, so one volumetric setting can give a different weight from lot to lot; the dosing recipe is set against the powder that will actually run. Output reads the same way: on a multi-lane machine, the cycle rate and the packs per minute are not the same number. Packs per minute is the cycle rate multiplied by the lane count, and the lane count is set by pack width, so a narrow stick fits more lanes than a wide sachet. On VFFS there is no lane multiplication — one cycle is one bag.
