Milk powder is fatty, hygroscopic and quick to scorch reputationally — one caked pack loses a customer. The fat content makes the particles cohesive rather than free-flowing: the powder bridges in the hopper, clings to the dosing parts and lifts as fine dust the moment it drops. That dust is the real enemy on the line, because it settles in the seal area and turns a sound weld into a channel leak, and moisture entering through that channel is exactly what causes caking. Dry-path auger filling, dust control and high-barrier films keep it free-flowing through shelf life, and the machine itself has to be built to keep powder away from the sealing jaws. Volumetric cups and gravity systems are unreliable with this material, because a non-free-flowing powder never fills a cup the same way twice — bulk density drifts with aeration and with how long the material has rested.
