Cream-of-mushroom powder mixes fine starch and creamer with dried mushroom pieces that must not concentrate in the first or last packs. The blend is a non-free-flowing powder and its two fractions behave differently: the starch and creamer are light and cohesive, the mushroom pieces coarse and comparatively heavy. Vibration, long dwell times in the hopper and every extra transfer push them apart, so a batch can start pale and empty and finish dark and crowded. The creamer fraction is hygroscopic and mushroom aroma is volatile, and barrier film locks in aroma only where the seal is clean and continuous. Filling is done with an auger. A volumetric cup cannot handle a cohesive powder that bridges over the outlet, and the repeated drops of a weigher break the pieces. Agitated blending at the auger and gentle handling protect piece distribution: the hopper agitator keeps fines and pieces moving together instead of letting them settle into layers, while the screw meters a measured volume per turn. Screw pitch and diameter are matched to bulk density and piece size, and product-contact parts come apart for dry cleaning between recipes. Single-bowl sachets are the standard unit: one portion, one bowl, cartoned for retail and supplied in bulk to hotel and catering kitchens.
