Powdered sugar is the definition of a dusting problem: ultra-fine, clinging, and quick to cake with humidity. The particle size that lets it dissolve on contact is the same property that puts a fine cloud in the air the moment the product is disturbed. Those airborne fines settle on sealing jaws and film edges, and a seal closed over a layer of sugar leaks. The powder clings to hopper walls, to funnels, and to the outside of the pack itself. And because icing sugar is hygroscopic, moisture is not a cosmetic issue: a pack that leaves the line soft can reach the shelf as a solid brick if the barrier film is wrong. As a non-free-flowing powder it does not obey a volumetric cup. It bridges over the hopper outlet, rat-holes down the middle, and shifts bulk density depending on how long it has been standing. That is why an icing sugar filling machine is built around auger dosing. An enclosed auger with an agitator keeps the product moving, breaks bridges before they form, and meters by screw rotation rather than by gravity, so the dose repeats even as the head of product above it changes. Enclosed auger dosing with dust extraction keeps seals and surroundings clean, while moisture-barrier film prevents rock-hard packs. Baking-portion sachets and food-service dusting packs are the standard formats. A stick pack is the single-use baking portion: one stick per cake top or dessert, with no half-open bag left behind to absorb humidity, which is why an icing sugar stick pack machine is the usual starting point for retail and HoReCa portions. Four-side-seal sachets are the classic food-service dusting pack, sent to bakeries, cafés and dessert kitchens where a fixed amount per use is what matters. Larger household and semi-industrial sizes move to pillow bags on VFFS lines, where the same dust control and barrier requirements apply. The dose range for these formats is 10 to 25 g. Output is a question of pack width before it is a question of speed, because these are multi-lane machines: the narrower the pack, the more lanes fit across the film web. An SPM1200 running a narrow stick can be laid out with 12 lanes for up to 840 packs per minute; the same machine set for a wider pack runs 7 lanes and up to 490 packs per minute. Cycle rate and packs per minute are therefore not the same number. Pack width is decided first, the lane count follows, and only then is the real output known. Four Mentpack machines cover this product. ARTISTICK runs 1 to 5 lanes for narrow stick formats and shorter, more flexible runs. SPM320 runs 1 to 8 lanes. SPM800 runs 4 to 12 lanes. SPM1200 runs 7 to 12 lanes and carries the highest output. Each can be configured as a powdered sugar sachet packaging machine or as a stick line, with auger dosing and dust extraction.
