Vitamin C degrades with moisture, light and oxygen — the three things a pack exists to stop. Ascorbic acid and the blends built around it are hygroscopic and behave as a non-free-flowing powder: they bridge in the hopper, rat-hole over the outlet and take up ambient moisture in the seconds they are open to the room. Effervescent formulations add an acid-carbonate reaction that begins as soon as humidity reaches them, so most producers keep the filling area under controlled humidity. Fine particles also travel, and powder that settles on the sealing area gives a contaminated, weak seal — a moisture path that shortens shelf life however good the film is. High-barrier, light-protective laminates and precise dosing to the declared dose are what hold potency to the end of shelf life. Dosing is by auger. A non-free-flowing powder cannot be metered repeatably by volumetric cup, because it never settles into the cup the same way twice; piston fillers belong to liquids and pastes. A servo-driven auger turns a measured number of degrees, while an agitator keeps the powder live above it so the screw is always fed. Auger tooling is chosen for the bulk density and flow behaviour of your own blend — an effervescent granulate and a micronised straight ascorbic acid do not behave alike — and dose accuracy can be verified in line with a checkweigher. The product runs in three pack formats. Stick pack leads the category: one dose, opened with one hand, tipped directly into the mouth or into a glass, and the narrow web suits both effervescent and direct-to-mouth products. Sachet, three- or four-side seal, is used where the dose is larger, where a printed panel is needed for pharmacy or export labelling, or for sampling. VFFS pillow bags cover bulk and refill packs and powder that feeds a downstream line. Dose range and output are set per project, against your blend and your pack drawing, rather than published as a single figure. On a multi-lane vitamin C powder stick pack machine or sachet packaging machine the output is the machine cycle multiplied by the lane count, and the lane count follows pack width: a narrow stick fits more lanes across the same web than a wide sachet, so packs per minute move with the pack you choose. On a VFFS machine there is no lane multiplication — one cycle is one bag. Machine selection follows the format: a multi-lane stick pack or sachet machine with auger dosing for single-dose work, a VFFS packaging machine with an auger filling machine head for bags. Where oxygen is the critical factor, nitrogen flush can be specified. Changeover parts are sized so one line can carry several pack widths.
